Why You Should Be Doing This Exercise
Instead of doing dumbbell raises with a neutral grip (which would have your palms facing each other), let's mix it up and keep you fresh and engaged. Plate time. Oh, and great inner shoulder action too, as if you weren't already sold.
Start
Athletic stance, hands holding the plate so that half the plate is above your hands, and the other half is beneath. Think of it like holding a steering wheel like a crazy person. Your palms are smiling at each other and your arms are fully extended.
Middle
Lift the plate in front of you so that it's a bit higher than your shoulders. The plate's face should now be facing you, in a classic Western showdown. The straighter your arms are throughout, the better your shoulders will be for it.
Finish
Slowly lower the plate back to the starting position, which again is whereyour arms are dangling and the plate is now flat like a table top.
Key Don'ts
No need to go any higher than shoulder level when you lift the plate. More isn't always more. Also, like a broken record, keep that back straight. Cool?
